• Agateware Tea Bowl in Red Iron Oxide Brown & White

Agateware Tea Bowl in Red Iron Oxide Brown & White

    $50.00

    description

This Agateware Tea Bowl is the perfect size for an afternoon cup of tea, coffee or juice.

You are going to just love the way this feels in your hand. Glazed on the inside with a natural, unglazed finish on the outside that has been carefully sanded to perfection.

The feeling of the surface is reminiscent of a river stone and if your anything like me, you wont be able to keep your hands off it.

Every part of these pots is considered with you in mind: the feeling of your mouth on the lip, the weight of the pot in your hand, how the foot meets your table, there's even a little drainage hole in the foot ring so water doesn't collect in your dishwasher or drying wrack.

    Approximately 3.5" x 4.25" x 3.5".  Holds 12oz comfortably.

    process

My agateware collection is my most direct reference to earth these pots came from and depending on the colors used, takes on an extraterrestrial quality.

Each pot is made from multiple pieces of hand stained porcelain, prearranged in a striated pattern and then thrown and trimmed on the potter's wheel. Some pots are faceted on the wheel with a cheese slicer or later on in the process with a sure form (think cheese grater) disrupting the pattern while also giving your hands places to explore and revisit with each use.

The pots are obsessively sanded, first at the bisque stage and then again after they come out of the high fire. The result is a surface that looks and feels like a river stone. These pots are meant to be held and maybe even cherished.
